Behold the Heart that has so loved you.
If you have ever wondered whether God really loves you, not humanity in general, but you, by name, the Sacred Heart is His answer. He showed us His Heart so we would finally stop doubting it.
In the 1670s, in a quiet convent in Paray-le-Monial, France, Jesus appeared again and again to a nun named Margaret Mary Alacoque. He showed her His Heart. Living. On fire. Crowned with thorns and wounded for love of us.
He said, "Behold the Heart which has so loved men, that it has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming itself, in order to testify its love." And then He grieved, because so much of that love is met with coldness and forgetting.
He was not asking for much. He asked to be loved in return. He asked us to come close.
What He asked for, and what He promised
The Holy Hour
He asked Margaret Mary to spend an hour with Him, keeping Him company in His agony. Could you not watch one hour with Me? He asks us the same.
The Nine First Fridays
Receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of nine months in a row. To those who do, Jesus attached great promises of mercy, especially at the hour of death.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart
A whole feast given by the Church to His love, celebrated to this day.
Consecration and reparation
Giving Him our hearts in return, and offering Him love in the places where He receives so little.
His Heart is not a metaphor.
It is real. It was pierced. And it is still open. There is room in it for you.
