Prayers of the Divine Will

A bit of context

Every time we pray the Our Father, we ask for one astonishing thing, that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and to pray with the Divine Will is to take that line seriously, beginning to hand Him not just our actions but our will itself, so that His life can become the life of our soul.

A word of honesty belongs here. The fullest writings on living in the Divine Will came through Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta, whose cause is still open and whose books are studied under the guidance of the Church, so we do not reproduce them here. What follows are simple, time-tested prayers that belong to the whole Church, and they are more than enough to begin, and to go deeper, read under the Church's guidance, with a good priest.

The heart of it is small and repeatable. Lord, not my will, but Yours, said in the morning, said again at noon, and said one more time when the hard thing comes.

Let's Pray

1. Begin the day by offering it all to Him. Before your feet hit the floor, pray the Morning Offering:

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, for the salvation of souls, and in reparation for sin. Amen.

2. Pray the Our Father slowly, and rest on one line.

Pray it as if for the first time, and when you reach Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, stop there, say it again, and let it sink in, because that is the whole prayer in seven words.

3. Through the day, surrender each thing as it comes.

You do not need long prayers, so as you start a task, a conversation, or a difficulty, breathe a single line: Jesus, I do this with You, and for You. Your will, not mine.

4. When something hard arrives, hand it back.

Instead of bracing against it, try praying: Into Your hands, Lord. Let it be done in me. This is the Fiat, the yes of Mary, said again in you, and you will take the worry back five minutes later, so simply surrender it again, because a thousand small yeses is how a life is changed.

5. End the day by letting go. 

Before sleep, give Him whatever is unfinished and unresolved. It is Yours, Lord. I trust You with it through the night. And then rest.
