Thy will be done. He meant it as a gift, not a burden.
If we pray every single day for God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, then He must intend for that to actually happen somewhere. In someone. Maybe even in you.
Luisa Piccarreta was born in 1865 in Corato, a small town in southern Italy. For most of her long life she was bedridden. And yet through her, Jesus opened something the saints had longed for across the centuries. He called her the Little Daughter of the Divine Will.
Over many years He dictated to her what now fills thirty-six volumes, known as the Book of Heaven. Their subject is the oldest prayer of all. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus taught Luisa that this is not only something we ask for. It is something we can live.
What it means to live in the Divine Will
It is more than obeying God's commands from the outside. It is letting His will become the very life of your soul, so that your smallest acts are taken up into His, and you begin, even now, to live the way heaven lives.
It is the Fiat. The yes of Mary, said again in us. Let it be done.
A note, in honesty: the cause for Luisa's beatification is open, and she holds the title Servant of God. Her writings are read under the guidance of the Church, always in the light of Scripture and the faith. We share them with that same care.
Heaven is not only a place we are waiting for.
It is a way of living that can begin in you. Today. With a single yes.
"Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."Matthew 6:10
